Plan Your Roadmap
Use the default roadmap, create audience-specific roadmap views, and configure columns, filters, and visibility.
When you create a new workspace, Boarbs automatically creates a default Main Roadmap.
It is designed to give you a publishable roadmap quickly instead of asking you to configure everything from scratch.
What the Default Roadmap Gives You
The default roadmap is based on your organization statuses and starts with columns for:
BacklogPlannedIn ProgressDone
That is enough for many teams to publish a clean public roadmap on day one.
Where to Manage Roadmaps
Open Settings → Roadmaps.
From there, you can:
- create new roadmaps
- rename an existing roadmap
- set an icon and description
- change visibility
- change sorting
- add, edit, or hide columns
- define roadmap-level and column-level filters
Visibility Options
Each roadmap can be:
Everyone— visible publiclyTeam only— internal only
This is useful when you want:
- one public roadmap for customers
- one private roadmap for planning or internal coordination
Sorting Options
Roadmaps can be ordered by:
Top upvotedMost recentTrendingDue datePending
Choose the sorting method that matches the story you want the roadmap to tell.
How Columns Work
Each roadmap column has its own:
- name
- icon
- color
- filter rules
- visibility toggle
Columns are not just cosmetic. They define which posts appear in each part of the roadmap.
For example, a public column might show only posts with a specific status or board.
Good First Roadmap Patterns
Simple public roadmap
Use when:
- you are just getting started
- customers only need the basics
Recommended columns:
- Planned
- In Progress
- Done
Customer-facing + internal roadmap
Use when:
- you want a clean public roadmap
- your team needs a more detailed internal planning view
Recommended approach:
- keep one roadmap public
- create a second roadmap for the team only
Audience-specific roadmaps
Use when:
- you have separate products or customer groups
- different boards should power different public views
Recommended approach:
- create additional roadmaps with board-based filters
Before You Publish
- check the roadmap visibility
- review which columns are shown publicly
- make sure the sorting feels right
- confirm the roadmap only includes the boards and statuses you intend
- make sure the roadmap still matches the updates you are sharing publicly
Next Steps
- Publish an Update — Close the loop once work moves or ships
- Collect Guest Feedback — Make it easy for visitors to interact
- Portal — See where the roadmap appears on your public portal
